n a narrow path leading out of the lower-territories, Nileen and Godongwana journey together.

Both are quiet as they contemplate the coming days. Nileen is the first to break the silence.

“Shaka Zulu has chosen another path — I told you before this all started that he could not be controlled!”

Godongwana pauses, catch his breath, adjusts his footing and then responds, “It is true. He cannot be controlled. Shaka Zulu is a king — you must approach him in another way. Appealing to his compassionate side failed us because he understands fighting for life.”

“He chose not to fight for the lives of those in the lower-territories…” Nileen points out.

“No,” Godongwana explains, “he chose not to steal away their last bit of self. Their right to fight for what they believe in.”

Nileen shakes her head. “This makes no sense to me. He could lead us to victory!”

“Child, he too, must fight for what he believes in.”
